Oxford London Summer Program Schedule: A Detailed Look

Oxford London Summer Program Schedule: A Detailed Look

Summer programmes are not just about learning. Instead, they are a chance to explore and make the most out of your summer break. The Oxford London Summer Program offers exactly that, but a little more. Where most summer programmes center around one location, this two-week program places students at two different locations. First, students attend their courses at Imperial College London in South Kensington, and then move to St Anne's College at the University of Oxford. This blog provides a detailed, tentative schedule for the Oxford London Summer Program.

At The Oxford London Summer Program, you get to experience two famous cities, two prestigious colleges in the UK, and a schedule that combines them. So, if you were wondering what your life would be like from Mondays to Saturdays, this blog is for you. In addition, we will answer the most common queries.

How is the Oxford London Summer Program different from the Oxford Summer Program?

Both of our summer programmes are planned and will be executed with efficiency and commitment. The Oxford Institute ensures academic excellence across both these programs. We follow the same academic standards and tutorial teaching methodology, and aim to provide the same lifelong experience to two students across our three essential pillars (Learning, Leading, and Lifestyle).

So, what makes them different?

The difference lies in scope instead of quality.

The Oxford Summer Program takes place in a single city (Oxford). Students will arrive at St Anne's College of Oxford, attend lectures and tutorials, and participate in cultural excursions. We will take them punting and incorporate other fun activities to ensure they bond and enjoy themselves while keeping academics as the top priority.

For many students, this focused, all-Oxford experience is exactly what they want.

The Oxford London summer program increases the geographical scope. Instead of one city, students now experience two of the most popular cities in the UK-London and Oxford. For the first week of the program, students arrive at Imperial College London in South Kensington, where they learn and explore London.

For the second week, however, we will move them to St Anne's College at Oxford, where they will continue studying their subjects. The University of Oxford's focus will largely shift to tutorials for small cohorts. Students also receive coaching in Oxford Union-style debate. Here, they indulge in the quieter, more academically rigorous Oxford environment. However, we also plan further extracurricular activities and cultural excursions.

So, if you are wondering which program works best for you, the answer is simple. Choose what aligns with you better. If you are looking for a short, rigorous academic program within a short timeline, the Oxford Summer Program becomes a natural choice.

However, if you want a deeper look into the British academic life and want to explore more cities, the Oxford London Summer Program is an excellent pick for you.

Oxford London Summer Plan in Action

Here is a clearer picture of the daily schedule at the Oxford London Summer Program. However, it is subject to change and varies from student to student and from instructor to instructor.

Day of Arrival- Settling before the Learning Period (20 July)

On 20 July, our team will receive and welcome students. Students will then be escorted to their accommodation in Imperial College London's Prince's Gardens in South Kensington.

For their first day, we never want to overwhelm the students with lectures and heavy study material. Instead, they receive our support in adjusting to the new environment and participate in various ice-breaking activities to make new friends for the upcoming days.

The Oxford Institute has hosted participants from over 90 nationalities in the past. This cultural and regional diversity allows our students to learn from one another, but first, they all must get comfortable with one another. Icebreakers make this possible.

The day ends with a welcome dinner.

Getting Started (21 July)

The next morning starts with an introductory lecture, and after lunch, students attend another lecture and engage in debate.

Then, after dinner, students indulge in more ice-breaking activities, as one day is never enough to bring together so many different nationalities.

This day serves as an introduction to the program's pattern, teaching style, independent thinking, and the ability to identify issues clearly.

London Tour and a Night of Music (22 July)

This day promises excitement, fun, and learning. Wednesday would start with a morning lecture followed by what most of you are looking forward to- a guided London tour. Many of our international students are visiting the city for the first time, and so, they don't just want to look at it from a coach's window. This day allows students to step out, explore, and make fun memories.

Although South Kensington alone offers many exciting sights, we plan to take our students further.

As the tour ends, all students will have their dinners from 7 PM onwards. But, guess what? The fun does not end here.

We have planned a musical night for you all to enjoy in the evening.

Essay Counselling, Admissions Guidance and Karaoke (23 July)

23 July is easily one of the most useful days for pre-university students. In the morning, students will attend the essay counselling session. This session will walk them through tips for strong academic writing, which will also help them write their personal essays for university applications.

In the afternoon, our focus will shift to providing admissions guidance to our students. We will discuss the institution's selection strategy and what matters to admissions offers.

Thanks to these fruitful practices over the past 20+ years, our alumni have been admitted to Harvard, Oxford, and many other top colleges.

After a day of valuable practical learning, the night will end with a fun dinner and karaoke for all.

Movies, Museum, and Lots of Learning (24 July)

Friday will follow a regular morning routine, which starts with lectures. However, after lunch, we plan to deliver a lecture or take students on a museum visit. Visits like these are great for learning and for understanding the city's history and lifestyle.

A movie after dinner would close on Friday night.

Learning to Lead: A Day for Debating (25 July)

This day is entirely dedicated to debating. Students receive debate coaching and use their public speaking skills in these sessions. The day concludes with indoor games and dinner.

Time for Oxford (26th July)

In the morning, our team and students will travel to Oxford for supervision and safety. The Oxford Institute has zero compromise on safety standards, as we are hosting very young teenagers as well. Over the last two decades, we have consistently maintained a 100% safety record.

Upon arrival, students will take an Oxford tour, then have dinner and some free time in the evening.

Studying the Oxford Way (27 July)

Monday morning marks the beginning of your week at Oxford, and you will instantly feel the change. Both morning and afternoon consist of discussion-based lectures. Students are introduced to the tutorial teaching methodology- small cohorts of students study under tutors who give individual feedback and assign work. Moreover, the afternoon may also include an Oxford Tour.

The social life does not end at Oxford. To keep it alive, the evening ends with a game night and dinner.

Counselling, Punting, Tutorials, and More (28 July)

The morning starts with a counselling session. This is followed by some afternoon tutorials and then punting along the River Cherwell. The evening ends with another movie night and dinner from 7 PM onwards.

Oxford Union Debating (29 July)

On Wednesday, we plan to work on our students' debating and public speaking skills. The morning will open up with a debating session. In the afternoon, students will move directly to the Oxford Union for debating and public speaking. The evening would include prep time, and dinner will be served from 7 PM onwards.

Sports Day, Tutorials, and Essay Submission (30 July)

Awaken the sportsman in you on Thursday, as the afternoon has a Sports Day scheduled. However, before that, you will have your morning and afternoon tutorials.

Also, do note that your essay will be due at night.

Tutorials and Formal Dinner (31 July)

After your morning and afternoon tutorials, students will be welcome to attend the formal dinner. As this is your second last day at Oxford, we have planned to keep the evening free for students.

Departures and Goodbyes (1 August)

The start of the new month marks the end of your Oxford London Summer Programme. After some debriefing on our end, students will depart for their homes.

We hope you will leave with many memories and a strong academic grasp of your chosen subjects.

Many great minds have walked through those hallways, including politicians, thinkers, and scientists such as Stephen Hawking.

Moreover, staying at a single campus would give you more time to adjust to college life. Similarly, you will have more time to bond with peers in the same setting and to understand the specifics.

So, if you want a focused, fully immersive Oxford experience with as few distractions as possible, the 14-day Oxford Summer Program is for you.

Our 8-day Oxford Summer Program could be a decent choice for first-time international travellers or for families carefully considering costs. Moreover, it is a great pick if you cannot commit for too long due to time constraints.
