The Oxford Institute’s unique two-week summer program in Chengdu, China, merges Oxford’s academic excellence with China’s rich cultural heritage, offering students a transformative blend of rigorous learning and cultural immersion. Led by tutors from the University of Oxford and organised in collaboration with esteemed Chinese colleagues, the Oxford-China Summer Camp bridges knowledge and cultural boundaries between two global centres of tradition and discovery. Students engage in a one-week academic program focused on developing communication, debating, and critical thinking skills, followed by a week of cultural exploration, including visits to the iconic panda reserves, sampling Sichuan cuisine, and more. This immersive experience provides young students from around the world with a modern, integrated approach to learning and personal growth.

Courses & Faculty

  • Problem Solving – Dr. Ashlee Stetser
    A licensed attorney with expertise in international law, Dr. Stetser leads students in tackling global issues through creative group discussions, developing skills in collaboration, leadership, and persuasive communication.
  • Debating & Public Speaking – Ahmad Nawaz
    Former President of the Oxford Union, Ahmad Nawaz imparts his extensive experience in debate and public speaking, guiding students to communicate confidently and effectively.
  • Critical Thinking – Inti Mantripp
    With a background in physics and finance, Inti teaches students to form and assess opinions critically, fostering independent and analytical thinking.
  • Business Plan – Carlo Palazzi
    A researcher in renewable energy, Carlo’s course combines business theory with hands-on problem-solving, encouraging students to think strategically about business and ethics.
  • Design Thinking – Lucy Aitchison
    Lucy’s course emphasises empathy, creativity, and experimentation, guiding students through a practical project using design thinking to generate innovative solutions.

The Cultural Side: Playing Hard in Chengdu

After a week of engaging academics, students embark on a 7-day cultural tour around Chengdu:

  • Panda Valley: Visit the renowned Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
  • Sichuan Cuisine Museum: Experience Sichuan’s rich culinary heritage.
  • Leshan Buddha: Marvel at one of the largest stone Buddha statues in the world.
  • Cultural Crafts: Try hand-made bamboo knitting, Sichuan opera facial painting, and more.
  • Chengdu Highlights: Explore Qingcheng Mountain, Jinsha Site Museum, and Kuanzhai Alley.
