London is among the most popular destinations for summer schools, colleges, and higher education. Each year, many international students travel to London to pursue bachelor's and master's degrees. However, it is also home to some of the most prestigious summer schools. In this blog post, we will go over why summer programs in London could be a transformative experience for your child and what one of the best summer school options is.
Why Choose London for a High School Summer Program?
Out of so many destinations around the world, why choose London for your summer program? This is a common question for many parents and students. So, here's the most accurate answer.
London is one of the most popular destinations for students due to its rich history, museums, and endless educational and research opportunities.
In the early 1900s, London was the capital of the British Empire, which colonized almost a quarter of the entire world. Therefore, this old city is relatable for many students from different countries, as the British were part of its history in one way or another. Every corner offers something new and exciting, making learning feel alive and engaging at the same time.
Secondly, the city is home to some of the most highly ranked educational institutions around the world, such as Imperial College London and King's College. These institutions have produced notable alumni, including William Crooks, David Warren, Rajiv Gandhi, and Thomas Hardy. Many of these colleges and universities offer summer programs for high school students in partnership with organizations such as The Oxford Institute.
Attending a summer program at a top college like this greatly diversifies a child's portfolio, not only developing their confidence but also allowing them to excel in life.
Benefits of Summer Programs in London for Teenagers
A summer program in London offers many benefits, whether you are an international student or a resident of London. Some of them are listed below.
Developing Confidence and Independence
For most high school students, a residential summer program in London is often the first opportunity they get to experience life without parents' supervision. Especially if they are international students traveling from some other country, a London summer program allows them to make small everyday decisions independently.
This makes a high school student more responsible, globally aware, and mature.
Summer school providers also supervise the child, but still give them as much free rein as possible without compromising their safety. Moreover, students are exposed to parliamentary-style debating and public speaking during most of these programs. These workshops further develop their confidence, independence, and leadership skills.
Moreover, as students usually study advanced concepts of their chosen subjects, they are better prepared for their university lives ahead.
London-based programs like The Oxford Summer Program add even more value by combining cultural discovery with academic exposure. As an outcome of these factors, they become better critical thinkers, team players, and public speakers.
Meeting International People
London is home to people from many nationalities, and the summer programs here follow the same rules. Therefore, if you will be traveling to London to attend a summer program there, expect to leave with an international peer network.
The Oxford Institute, for example, conducts multiple summer programs across destinations such as Oxford and London. In the last 20 years, the Oxford Institute has hosted almost 90+ nationalities.
Strengthening College Applications
Admissions officers at colleges view reputable summer programs as an additional effort on the student's part to explore their areas of interest. Therefore, if you choose the right summer program, it might increase your chances of getting into your dream school.
You may wonder which summer program is right in this context.
Here's the simplest breakdown: Any summer program that is affiliated with a top university can be the right choice.
However, you must select subjects relevant to your intended major to increase your chances further. Moreover, one of the best moves you can make is to attend a summer program at the same college you plan to apply to for your undergraduate studies.
Doing so reflects not only exceptional curiosity in the subject of your choice, but also the college/university itself.
This list of benefits can go on and on, but the above three are convincing enough to choose London as your summer program's destination. Not only would you tour one of the most popular cities in the world, but you would also enjoy the lifelong benefits it offers in terms of communication and leadership skills.

The Oxford London Summer Program: A 2-in-1 British Summer Experience
Running from 20th July to 1st August, the Oxford London Summer Program divides its experience between two of England's most famous cities: Oxford and London.
Students spend their first week at Imperial College London in South Kensington. Ambitious students seek academic growth and cultural discovery during their time in London. They attend lectures and go on city tours with our staff.
For the second week, they travel to St Anne's College, Oxford University, for distraction-free and rigourous academic immersion. Here they experience Oxford's world-famous collegiate environment at St Anne's College. Students select two subjects, one as a major and the second as a minor, from the almost 30 offered, attending structured, discussion-driven classes and small-group tutorials.
Oxford-style tutorials are a key feature of students' time in Oxford. The tutorial teaching methodology assigns small groups of students to tutors. Tutors give individual feedback, deliver tutorials, assign work, and ensure everyone catches up. This learning style has been the core of teaching at Oxford.
Beyond the classroom, the program focuses on developing students' essential skills through Oxford Union-style debate coaching, public speaking sessions, teamwork challenges, admissions counseling, and essay counseling.
Moreover, cultural excursions such as punting on the River Cherwell, a visit to the museum, and walking tours of London add to the fun. We also plan to organize movie and karaoke nights to break the ice and foster student engagement.
The Oxford London Summer Program is open to all multiple age groups, including 12–15, 16–18, and 19+. Therefore, you experience a truly international experience with like-minded peers.
