Unforgettable Memories: A Week at the Oxford London Camp

The first week of the Oxford London Program has been a whirlwind of activity, filled with enriching academic sessions, cultural explorations, and the forging of new friendships. Here’s a recap of the memorable experiences our students had during this exciting week.

 Day 1: Arrival and Orientation

The journey began with the arrival of our students at Imperial College, where they will be spending the first week of the program before moving to Oxford. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as students met the team and the deans, setting the stage for an unforgettable summer. This initial meeting was crucial for building a sense of community and preparing everyone for the weeks ahead.

Day 2: Debating and Law with Lucy

On the second day, our students participated in a stimulating lecture on debating and law delivered by Lucy, a recent graduate in Law from the University of Oxford. Lucy, who has extensive experience in intellectual property law and media regulation, provided valuable insights into the art of legal debates. Her session helped students develop critical thinking and persuasive speaking skills, essential tools for their academic and professional futures.

Day 3: Delving into Dark Energy and Dark Matter with Carlo Palazzi

The exploration of the universe’s mysteries was the focus on the third day, with a captivating lecture on dark energy and dark matter led by Carlo Palazzi. Carlo, a researcher in renewable energy systems and a DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford, guided the students through the historical context of cosmology and the challenges that have driven these cutting-edge research topics. His expertise inspired students to think deeply about the complexities of the cosmos and the ongoing quest for knowledge.

Day 4: Insights into Tropical Medicine with Dr. Aaron Anthony Pillai

An insightful session on tropical medicine, led by Dr. Aaron Anthony Pillai, provided our students with a deep dive into the world of infectious diseases and global public health. Dr. Pillai, a junior doctor working in internal medicine and founder of Doctors Without Barriers, shared his experiences from international aid missions. He presented a real outbreak case, discussed its control measures, and explored strategies for future prevention, offering a comprehensive understanding of the vital work in this field.

Day 5: Exploring the Vibrant Streets of London

The week included an exciting exploration of London, where our students immersed themselves in the city’s rich history, iconic landmarks, and cultural hotspots. From the historic Tower of London to the bustling Covent Garden, students experienced the diverse and dynamic spirit of the city. This day of exploration not only broadened their cultural horizons but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among the students.

Day 6: Connecting with peers from around the globe

Throughout the week, our students connected with peers from diverse backgrounds, creating lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. These interactions have been vital in building a supportive community where students can share experiences and learn from each other.

Day 7: Savoring the Culinary Scene of London

The final highlight of the week was exploring the culinary scene of London. Students had the opportunity to taste a variety of cuisines, reflecting the city’s multicultural vibrancy. This gastronomic adventure added a delicious dimension to their London experience, making it even more memorable.
